March 7, 2019. Two weeks ago, Gina Dhanani, Double Cola Company Chief Operations Officer, chaired the Chattanooga Women’s Leadership Institute’s 14th Annual IMPACT event.

Chattanooga Womenn’s Leadership Institute, or CWLI, works to increase leadership capabilities of the women of Chattanooga. They cater towards women in all steps of their careers, whether they are just beginning their careers, or executives in their fields. “We provide skills courses for women in their fields,” explained Dhanani.

As chair of the event, Dhanani was in charge of fundraisers, planning, and (most importantly) finding the keynote speaker for the event. This year, Katty Kay of BBC was asked to join the event and speak on confidence, competence, and how we, as a society, can work to improve this for women.

Kay’s book, titled Confidence and Competence, details how a woman just as competent as a man might not have the same level of confidence in her field.

In her opening remarks, Dhanani explained the importance of IMPACT, which is focused on increasing knowledge of the significant positive impact of female workers. “When we ask the right questions, when we all work together, joining our unique talents, we create an ecosystem where women thrive. When Women thrive, everyone thrives,” stated Dhanani, “Our work at CWLI is to build strong female leaders who serve on boards, who tackle complex issues, who bring creative solutions to difficult problems. But our mission is even harder.

“We are striving for systematic change informed by innovative approaches. We think it’s time to change the question a little. We want to move the conversation from ‘we have to’ to ‘we get to.’”
